Stage 01 of 03

The first floor goes in.

With the ground floor panels up, the engineered metal web joists went in over the top: strapped, blocked and squared off, with the openings for the stairwell formed as we went. The webs leave clear runs for services later, which saves the plumber and electrician drilling through solid timber.

Trusses on.

Five days later the roof was going on. The saw bench lived on the green next to the plot, timber stacked and cut to order, and the trusses went up with the dormer openings framed in as part of the structure rather than cut in afterwards.

The shell, framed out.

Two days after that the whole roof structure was complete: ridge, dormers and all, plumb and ready for the roofers. From first joist to framed roofline in the same week, which is the point of building in timber frame.
