Skirting, architrave and period profiles

Skirting, architrave, dado, picture rail and cornice fitted through whole houses or matched into a single room. On older Jersey property the original profiles are often worth keeping, so we match them rather than replacing everything with a modern section that looks wrong against the rest of the house. Internal corners scribed, external mitres cut tight and nothing relying on filler to hold the joint.

Period skirting and architrave, scribed in, by Stormproof Construction in Jersey
Period skirting and architrave, scribed in
What’s included

Every skirting and moulding job, covered.

/01

Matched Period Profiles

Existing skirting and architrave profiles matched so a new room reads as part of an old house, not a repair.

/02

Scribed Internal Corners

Internals scribed rather than mitred, so the joint stays closed when the timber moves through a damp island winter.

/03

Dado, Picture Rail & Cornice

Full sets of mouldings set out at consistent heights around a room, including through returns and awkward openings.

/04

Whole-House Runs

Entire houses stripped and re-run in one go, with the levels carried through so nothing steps at the doorways.

Questions

Asked and answered.

Can you match the skirting in our older Jersey house?

In most cases yes. We take a profile off the existing section and either source the closest match or have it run, then scribe it in so old and new sit as one length. Where an exact match is not obtainable we will show you the nearest options before ordering anything.

Should the skirting go in before or after the flooring?

It depends on the floor. Solid and engineered boards usually go down first with the skirting fitted over them, which hides the expansion gap neatly. Carpet is the other way round. We will sequence it with you so nothing has to be lifted twice.

Do you fill and caulk ready for painting?

Yes. Joints, pins and the top edge are filled and caulked as standard so your decorator can go straight to paint. If you want it left raw for a specific finish, just say.

Can you do a single room rather than the whole house?

Absolutely. Plenty of our moulding work is one room at a time as people decorate, and matching into the existing runs at the doorways is part of the job.

What about cornice and coving?

We fit timber and MDF cornice, picture rail and dado. Ornate plaster cornice restoration is a plasterer’s trade, and we will point you to the right person rather than pretend otherwise.
